Five Star: Between The Lines (RCA)

Jon Wilde, Melody Maker, 26 September 1987

HANG ABOUT, I'm still picking the lumps of Crunchie from my Hampsteads, still salivating over the last Five Star squalls, still worrying over the way that pop matures and stops being a secret place where you can paint the world any colour you like. I'm not even ready for another Five Star album. What if they've gone and gestated into something big and serious? What if they've gone and dived headlong into that dirty ditch we call pop, that fetid hole where Hucknall, D'Arby, Moyet and Wet live under the illusion that all those squeaky noises add up to something soulful.
