Ducks Deluxe: Ducks Deluxe (RCA)
Chris Welch, Melody Maker, 9 March 1974
AT LAST the pub rock bands are getting onto record, after months of being scrutinised by A&R men, publicists and journalists. Was it all worth the effort? Well, first off it must be said the whole phenomenon of the pub-rock bands, which after all, only broke upon our consciousness a year ago, is a marvellous example of self-help. It was because the rock scene had become too gargantuan, so machine-like that ordinary musicians, who wanted to make some fun, funky music, were being squeezed out and ignored.
