"I HAD THAT line in my songbook since about 1959, but I could never get anything together for it," Mac Rebennack remembered in his Los Angeles home. "'I was in the right place, but it must have been the wrong time.' Nothing else. Then Allen Toussaint talked to me about it and the song came from that."
