SAN FRANCISCO – Three years ago, the Doobie Brothers lived on food stamps in San Jose, playing at ramshackle area clubs for as little as $75 a night. The only way a Brother got into Winterland was with a ticket. Now the rock auditorium serves as the band's rehearsal hall.
