SMALL, INDEPENDENT labels have introduced many of rock music's most influential figures. Elvis Presley (on Sun Records), Chuck Berry (Chess) and Little Richard (Specialty). Even the Beatles' first album was briefly available on tiny Vee-Jay before Capitol picked up the Fab Four for domestic release.
