ONE MAGICAL weekend in the summer of 1968, Derek Taylor, the press agent for the Beatles, took a trip with Paul McCartney and the singer Peter Asher in a chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce to Bradford, where McCartney was recording one of Apple's first signings, a Yorkshire brass outfit called the Black Dyke Mills Band.
