FEW MUSICIANS have fully understood how to make effective use of feedback in improvised music. If anybody can crank up their output and return part of its signal into an amplifier/microphone (the input) to cause eruptions of abstract noise, it takes a well-tuned ear to make something of them, as master improvisor Derek Bailey demonstrates.
