Crass: Where Are They Now?

Martin Aston, Q, October 1990

CRASS WERE BRITAIN'S seminal anarcho-punk band, whose communal life and own Crass label epitomised the movement's DIY ethic. Handling everything from mail order, promoting gigs and financing other bands to being their own roadies, printing and folding their own record sleeves, Crass finally gave in, "totally exhausted", after seven albums, nine singles and seven years as an "information service". What could they all do to follow that? wonders Mutt Ongun of Wandsworth.
