Cholly Atkins, dancing machine

Deanne Stillman, Rolling Stone, 20 October 1977

DETROIT — I find Cholly Atkins, R&B dance master, in the basement of Gladys Knight's mother's Tudor mansion, rehearsing the Pips in a new routine to accompany the group's song, 'The Going Up and the Coming Down', The basement walls are covered with gold records and photographs of the group; laundry hangs in a doorway, and an ironing board is set up in the hall.
