Chilli Willi & The Red Hot Peppers: Red Hot

Phil Hardy, Let It Rock, June 1974

A month or two ago, a jovial group of rock critics in search of a drink and some music stumbled across Chilli Willi and the Red Hot Peppers. They were good, and what was particularly striking about the group was the range of material they played. The mixture included their own songs (like 'Goodbye Nashville, Hello Camden Town' and 'The Natural Evolution Of The Human Life Form On This Planet As We Know It, From Birth Till Eventual Unity And Oneness With The Creator') and songs associated with Louis Jordan ('Choo Chooch Ch'Boogie'), Doug Kershaw ('Mama And Papa Had Love'), Carl Perkins ('Boppin' The Blues'), the Burritos ('Lazy Days') plus R&B songs like 'The Walkin' Blues'. Phil Hardy decided to investigate further.
