Changing Channels: Television Breakup

Roy Trakin, New York Rocker, November 1978

I FOUND OUT, in attempting to sift through the ashes of Television's demise, that it was almost as unpleasant and impossible a situation as investigating the Sid Vicious case. Always a notoriously tight-lipped bunch, I wasn't even able to get in touch with leader Tom Verlaine or drummer Billy Ficca, neither of whom own telephones. From conversations with bass-player Fred Smith, guitarist Richard Lloyd and one-time manager Terry Ork, though, I was able to piece together some of the details surrounding the group's decision to go separate ways.
