THE GREAT irony of Buster Poindexter is that it finds David Johansen, who launched his career as a New York Doll by threatening to live faster and die younger than anyone in rock, trying to slip gracefully into middle age with some job security. He's buttoned his shirt, cut his bangs and transformed himself from Staten Island's answer to Mick Jagger into a lounge Godzilla.
