John McCready, The Face, October 1988
Scorned by the purists and ignored elsewhere, British soul has finally decided to go it alone. Almost inevitably, Manchester leads the way, a city where Factory lives alongside funk and Morrissey and Mantronik find fans. This is the new northern soul.
