SATURDAY NIGHT ended at seven o'clock on Sunday morning with one last bottle of Veuve Cliquot and Sunday began at four in the afternoon with Bette Midler. Normally I recommended a blend of coffee and neat alcohol in these situations, but if Bette Midler came in soluble form that would do nicely.
