Beth Orton

Phil Sutcliffe, Q, 1999

"I spent last weekend in this delirium of writing," bubbles Beth Orton, delight unleashing her accent’s full eccentricity – Cockney caw, Norfolk moo and middle-class cut glass combined. "I woke up at 5am on the Saturday and started writing, getting really stoned, just letting the pen go. It was so nice I didn’t go to sleep again until 9 the following morning. Then I got up at 5 and it happened again. Thinking, writing – I made some banana bread too – and suddenly it was 11am, Monday."
