At Play With the Voices of E. Harlem

NEW YORK — It was just an old red and white striped stuffed dog, but at least for now, it held the center of attention. Kids of varying shapes and sixes were throwing it around, making great catches and then tossing it to someone across the room. Occasionally it would fall to the floor, once between two boys who began dancing and sparring over it, but mostly the dog would float lightly through the air, gliding from one end of the old abandoned supermarket to the other.
