Arthur Lee: Royal Festival Hall, London
Rob Chapman, MOJO, March 2003
AS ICONIC gestures go, Arthur Lee raising a tambourine above his head, arms angled like he's cradling an invisible water pitcher, is up there with rock's richest. For those in the audience whose only previous acquaintance with the pose is that grainy TV clip of Love performing 'My Little Red Book' on The Dick Clark Show, gulp, 37 years ago, it's just one of many beatific moments to be savoured tonight. From the moment he strolls onto the stage, attired in white tassled cowboy shirt, issues a garage-punk command of "1-2-3-4" and launches into '7+7 Is' the man can do almost nothing wrong.
