Archie Bell & the Drells: Where Will You Go When The Party's Over (Philadelphia International PIR 81567) ****

Davitt Sigerson, Black Music, February 1977

ALTHOUGH IT doesn't scale the polyrhythmic peaks of their last perpetual player, Archie's guys' second set for PIR is far more consistent than their first. 'Nothing', the latest single, is a fairly characterless dancer, and 'Beautiful' is a jaunty, Sigler-produced stepper that doesn't quite come off, a charge that can also be fairly slapped on the jerky 'Dancin' Man'. All are, nevertheless, both interesting and listenable.
