Andy Warhol: A Mirror Of American Death

Geoffrey Cannon, New Society, 13 June 1968

2012 note: Cometh the hour... Paul Barker, the second and last editor of the UK weekly journal New Society, was once asked to speak on radio about the proposal that the 1960s began on 4 October 1962. This was the day the first James Bond book was published, the day of release of the first Beatles single – and the day of publication of the first issue of New Society. I was a founder-member of its editorial staff, leaving in 1965. This was my first meaningful job after university, at first on £950 a year.
