Alan Vega: Deuce Avenue (Musidisc)

Chris Roberts, Melody Maker, 9 June 1990

I PLAYED this when I was feeling flippant and swinging and it sounded boring. Then I played it while undergoing one of my Chiswick's-answer-to-Greta-Garbo phases and it made perfect sense. Perhaps that's the point. Alan Vega is still making records which start off with the basic premise that everything's f***ed and we should all be miserable as sin and work from mere. The last Suicide album struck me as quite fun, but this is altogether bleaker, starker, colder.
