AT ONE OF Joe South’s infrequent live shows, in some small place in Georgia a year or so back, he wasn’t getting the response he wanted. "I tell you what," he called to the audience, "why don’t you all get out of your seats, take each other’s hands, and start dancing around the hall. Then when you come down here in front of the stage, each one of you can kiss my ass."
