THERE'S A PARTICULAR high school campus in Los Angeles, in a section of that sprawling city where the California 5 freeway cuts through an area with Glendale on one side, and Los Feliz, Silver Lake and a huge nature preserve and recreation spot called Griffith Park on the other. This area of the City of Angels illustrates the unsettling contradictions, extremes and multiple personalities of Los Angeles as accurately as anything.
