Ramones & Heads: Punk Art?
Toby Goldstein, Crawdaddy!, February 1977
NEW YORK — The glittered frenzy of recent years has receded into a brooding severity of black and grays. The punk-rockers, newest manifestations of media image-making, live and work in environments of tat and clutter which the likes of Kiss or Aerosmith would never allow an outsider to see. For the Ramones and Talking Heads, both signed to Sire Records, such simplicity is an essential part of their need to be direct, without intermediaries, and above all, modern. Besides, Joey Ramone just can't get up and sing without his leather jacket.
