Q&A: Little Steven
Fred Schruers, Rolling Stone, 16 January 1986
LITTLE STEVEN Van Zandt, to his simultaneous worriment and gratification, has become the symbol of the antiapartheid movement outside of South Africa. It's not surprising he ended up in such a role; he arrived in his mid thirties a cult hero — based on his longtime partnership with Bruce Springsteen as guitarist and coproducer for the E Street Band — with a heavy burden of political concerns that hadn't yet found a voice.
