Factory R.I.P.
Paul Lester, Melody Maker, 5 December 1992
FACTORY RECORDS, arguably the most influential record label of the Eighties, fell into the hands of the Receiver last week — after months of speculation that it would be rescued by Polygram's London Records. Factory was long known to have been in financial difficulty. The Manchester label's cash-flow problems were said to have been exacerbated by two of its own bands, New Order and Happy Mondays, who both failed to finish their latest albums according to schedule.
