Berry Gordy: To Be Loved – The Music, The Magic, The Memories Of Motown (Headline)
Jim Irvin, MOJO, March 1995
AT THE get-go, Berry Gordy states that "the misconceptions about me and Motown have become so great I finally had to deal with them." Four hundred pages of skilful spin-doctoring later (abetted by nine interviewers, transcribers and editors, mostly female, tellingly — many of Gordy's backroom boys have been girls) Gordy has rendered himself as a determined, talented, candid man, sometimes a little demanding but always fair and true to a moral code largely comprised of homespun homilies and lines from Kipling's 'If'.
